The Laughter Life

How about a new feature?

In the near future, funeral homes will be offering a new service: Robotic Virtual Reincarnation!

Why say "Good bye" forever, when you can have the skull of the dearly departed attached to a robotic dog body and have it prancing about the house for years to come? The "Robocarnation" will be programmed with various recognizable quirks and traits of the Loved One, so you'll always be thinking "Uncle Phil used to do that! Maybe..."

Yeah: THAT'S HIDEOUS

There's Always Tomorrow...Unfortunately...

Let's check in with The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Vanity, thy name is Quasimodo! Well, if you worry that things can get worse, then perhaps things aren't that bad. Or maybe they are. One can think one has reached the bottom, but then someone hands you a shovel...

The Big Cheese

DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that wooly mammice (the colossal, tusked prehistoric mouse) had become such a problem for the cromagnon society that sabertooth tigers had been bred to eliminate the problem? Unfortunately, when the tigers hunted the mammouse to extinction, they then turned on their early human symbiotes, and brought about the end of cromagnon as well!
It's true!!

Salt Overboard, Sundial in Reverse

DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that all the way up to the mid-twentieth century, crusty old drunks were hired on merchent ships just before an ocean crossing, so as to be used as unwitting sacrifices to any seamonsters that might be encountered? Typically what happened was that no seamonsters appeared, and the unfortunate salt was tossed overboard instead of paid.
It's true -- really!

On the street where I live (yes, months after work began, it still continues...)

Downtown on April 15th. The sun sinking in the west creates shadows that reach eastward
But wait... a few steps away... reflected sunlight has shadows running in the opposite direction:
If these were sundials, it would be as if time were running backward

Steam Quack

This is what the infamous steam powered quaking brick may have looked like. As the story goes, in 1887, cement tycoon Cyrus Bruce had decided that buildings just weren't funny enough, so commissioned the design and fabrication of "quacking" bricks (steam powered, by all accounts). A five-story test building, consisting of one-quarter quacking bricks was erected in Squeedok Pennsylvania (on a block utilizing Bruce's synthetic banana peel pavement), to see if such a building would improve the "humorosity" of the surrounding community. The results will never be known because the very day the building was completed, a meteor completely flattened Squeedok (some say it was a comet, others a small asteroid, and still others say it was the wrath of God...). After that, Bruce abandoned the quacking brick idea and devoted his time to developing flavored sidewalks.

Spirit Razing

Hmmm, what's going through this quickly drawn fellow's mind at 2:30 in the morning?
(click on pic to expand)
Yes, much to ponder.

Walking up Elston ave on Wednesday, I came across this sorry sight.
