Yes, there was a time it was much admired to save one's bread; to not frivolously purchase things one didn't really need; to have the money before one actually bought something....
But today, is it one's patriotic duty to spend like a drunken sailor? When one walks into a store and are "just looking" have you become a villain for not stimulating the economy with energizing consumerism??
Do the store "associates" look in horror upon thrifty individual as he mills about in the strange glow of the entertainment department, knowing that he is not a "sale" but a distraction from profitable, job saving activity?
Times change, Horrors change...
