Last week I was required to report for jury duty at the Criminal Court. While waiting in a big room to see if I'd serve on a jury (did not), I read, did puzzles and drew some doodles. This one is an inked and colored version of one of the doodles. Yeah, it comes out of nowhere...

The Modern Plague
Last week while pushing my cart down the street (working on the job, you know), a woman talking on a cellphone walked right in front of me, seemingly oblivious to anything with a perpendicular trajectory. The phrase "Cell-Blind" popped into my head.

Humor Obsolescence
What happens to humor that missed it's era? There has always been "timely" and topical humor that has a limited shelf life, or humor that requires the audience to have specific knowledge, but what happens to humor (and the energy required to generate it), that is created way past the time it has a connection with any audience? Can it even be considered "humor", or the very fact it exists outside the realm of conventional humor humorous in itself?

Goofy Grins Continue
I guess I'm in a "Goofy Grin" phase -- Drew this in pencil on the commute to work. Colored it in when I got home.
I figure this guy's thrilled because he's finally thought of something really insane he can tell his psychiatrist. You see, this rather considerate fellow has been worried that his analyst was finding their weekly sessions a tad too boring.

Apple Cart Pusher Overer
For some reason the memory of someone saying (or more than one, at different times) that the "job" of art is to upset or challenge the "establishment". I think that's a little silly to have such a limited definition of art (or that it has a "job").
With that in mind, I scribbled this on a sticky-note
Oh, by the way, Today (6/7/11) marks three years since I started this blog!

Just Talkin'
You know how when a stand-up comedian acts like he's talking on the phone, will put his hand up to the side of his face, thumb up near the ear and little-finger extended to the mouth? Well, why can't that be a super-power? Seems that in the comic books, if you're super-good at anything, you can put on a costume and be a super-hero. Why can't there be a super-hero who pretends he's talking on the phone -- really good?
Why can't some comedian, tired of all the rotten things in society, decide to drop out and run off to train at some mysterious mime academy (yeah, that's it: L'academie de la pantomime extraordinaire, the Top Secret school started by the French Underground to train mimes to battle the Nazis )? And then a few more years studying esoteric mystical stuff with the Lamas of Tibet?
Yeah, I can see it now...
